In fact, it was specifically designed not to be a show about white people. In an interview with TVGuide, show creator Kenya Barris said, “It's always been an African-American family that lives outside of the culture of white people. That's been something that I've dealt with in my life as a son of a black father and a white mother. I'm very much a product and a representation of that modern black man. And so, in some ways, this is what I've been dealing with my whole life: This duality that we live within…It's just an African-American family living outside of the culture of white people.” The show also has a point to get across, and it gets it across by subtlety and comedy. “I feel like the world is changing before our eyes, and there are parts about it that are incredible,” said Anthony Anderson, who plays Andre “Dre” Johnson in the show. cfa1e77820
